Real-Time Tissue Elastography and Transient Elastography for Evaluation of Hepatic Fibrosis
نویسنده
چکیده
Liver fibrosis develops as a sequel of chronic liver injury of various etiologies, including vi‐ ral infection, immunological reaction, and toxic and metabolic insults, and is characterized by the accumulation of extracellular matrix(ECM) components produced by fibroblast-like cells including activated stellate cells and myofibroblasts in the hepatic parenchyma. Hepat‐ ic fibrosis progresses towards cirrhosis, an end-stage liver injury, leading to hepatic failure, hepatocellular carcinoma, and finally death. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is the most common cause of liver fibrosis. HCV infects approximately 170 million individuals world‐ wide according to a report from the

Assessment of hepatic fibrosis by transient elastography in rheumatoid arthritis patients receiving methotrexate
Background and Aim: Methotrexate (MTX) is commonly used in the treatment of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) but, its hepatotoxicity potential, always has been a major concern. The aim of this study is to determine the rate of liver fibrosis by transient elastography (TE) method and its relationship with cumulative dose of MTX and duration of treatment, in rheumatoid arthritis patient...
متن کاملAssessment of transient elastography (FibroScan) for diagnosis of fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Background: Transient elastography (TE) is a new modality for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis caused by various etiologies. This study was conducted to determine the accuracy of TE in detecting the different stages of liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. Methods: MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Ovid, Cochrane Library, American College of Physicians (ACP) Journal Club...
متن کاملPrinciples and clinical application of ultrasound elastography for diffuse liver disease
Accurate assessment of the degree of liver fibrosis is important for estimating prognosis and deciding on an appropriate course of treatment for cases of chronic liver disease (CLD) with various etiologies. Because of the inherent limitations of liver biopsy, there is a great need for non-invasive and reliable tests that accurately estimate the degree of liver fibrosis. Ultrasound (US) elastogr...

l l i i h n a w s e iver fibrosis is, undoubtedly, one of the main prognostic facors in liver disease because it determines the development f cirrhosis and its subsequent complications.1 Classically, liver biopsy has been considered the old-standard for liver fibrosis assessment.2 There are limtations associated to liver biopsy, namely sampling bias, bserver variability among pathologists and p...
متن کاملElastography in Chronic Liver Disease: Modalities, Techniques, Limitations, and Future Directions1
Chronic liver disease has multiple causes, many of which are increasing in prevalence. The final common pathway of chronic liver disease is tissue destruction and attempted regeneration, a pathway that triggers fibrosis and eventual cirrhosis. Assessment of fibrosis is important not only for diagnosis but also for management, prognostic evaluation, and follow-up of patients with chronic liver d...
